History and Mission Statement History Northland Financial was organized as the Bank of Steele in 1932. Chartered by the State of North Dakota as a commercial bank, Northland Financial has evolved into a full service financial center, including banking, insurance, leasing, investment, and real estate service. The bank was acquired by Home Incorporated, a local bank holding company in 1968, and in 2000, the bank name was changed from Bank of Steele to Northland Financial. Northland Financial covers a trade area including all of Kidder County and portions of Burleigh, Stutsman, Emmons, and Logan counties. The regional economy is primarily agricultural, including farming and ranching activity. Tourism is also a significant component of the local economy as the region is rich in outdoor recreation opportunities.
